- A private company submitted an unsolicited proposal to design, build, finance, and operate a roughly $1.1 billion replacement bridge.
- Two designs are in contention: a 135-foot fixed span, or a 65-foot span with a movable section that can open to 135 feet.
- The proposal floats a toll (reported around $2.75 per crossing for standard vehicles, more for larger ones) as a way to close a large funding gap.
